Essential Leadership Skills
January 4, 2018

I met with a senior executive recently who was keen to talk about the management skills required to retain, and get the best out of, Millennials. The first piece of advice I gave her was that Millennials want leadership not management.

The emerging group of workers – known as the “Millennial Generation” – born between 1980 and 2000, are a different breed than the generation before them (Generation X) and the Baby Boomers before them. This means that the leadership style required to retain and get the best out of our teams has to change accordingly.

Here are the ways in which Millennials differ from their predecessors:

  • They are Tech Savvy
  • They Play Well With Others
  • They Want The World (and they want it now)
  • They Want Recognition and to Be Taken Seriously
  • They Want An Employee-Centered and “Fun” Workplace

So, how do you lead Millennials?
